Help researchers by taking part in a biometric data collection

In 2016, Idiap and the Swiss Center for Biometrics Research and Testing will organise an extensive biometric data collection for research and testing purposes. We want to capture several images and audio recordings of you across different sessions, because we need to see how your biometric data evolves over time.

Data collection are going to take place from June to December 2016 at Idiap in Martigny, in Sion and in the Lausanne area.

Bonus point: by registering, you'll automatically be part of a draw to get some money reward ! (Hint: the more data you record, the higher the chance ...)

Some more details:

The following categories of data are going to be acquired:

  1. Wrist vein images
  2. 3D and near-infrared face sequences
  3. Face, iris, finger photos and voice recordings
  4. 3D finger vein images

You can choose which data you would like to be recorded, and for each of the options, you will be asked to sign a consent form. This biometric data collection will respect the Swiss legislation and will be declared to the Federal Officer for data protection.

What is biometrics?
Biometrics is the science of measuring and analyzing biological characteristics of humans for authentication purposes. Offering a more convenient way to identify an individual than passwords or badges, biometric security systems such as e-passports are becoming increasingly common.
While research on biometrics focuses on the recognition aspect and strives to make progress in:
it also takes other related matters in hand, such as:
  • soft biometrics (eye color, height, tattoos, etc.),
  • age or gender estimation from biometric samples,
  • facial expression recognition,
  • spoofing and anti-spoofing,
  • encryption of biometric data and template protection.
